Retailers can play an important role in helping their communities have access to convenient product take-back programs. Not only do such programs afford retailers the opportunity to provide a goodwill community service, but they can also increase foot traffic in a store. And, combined with strategic marketing, such as product-specific coupon campaigns, take-back programs hosted at retail locations can also boost the bottom line by encouraging sales.

 

In the third webinar of our series on product stewardship solutions in rural areas, we will explore how retailers can reap the benefits of national, manufacturer-funded take-back programs. Attendees will learn which programs are most suitable for which type of retailer, how retailers can participate, why they should participate, and how can local governments and retailers work together to build a strong infrastructure for a collection of these materials. Featuring a diverse panel of speakers, the webinar will focus on programs for mercury-containing thermostatsrechargeable batteries, and paint.

Roland Ostrout is the Store Manager at Bibens Ace Hardware in South Burlington, Vermont.  His store is one of six Bibens Ace stores throughout Vermont.  Roland has been in retail management for over 28 years and resides in Northfield, Vermont with his wife, Cindy, and they have two children, Mitchell and Laura.


Paul Campbell

Director, Sustainability and Green Leadership

Sears Holdings Corporation

Paul Campbell is currently Director, Sustainability and Green Leadership, for Sears Holdings Corporation. Paul began his career with SHC in 2004 as a Senior Manager, Home Services Business Development. In 2007 he was named Director, Home Appliances Operations, and led the team responsible for executing the national appliance stimulus programs. He transitioned to overseeing strategic relationships with energy industry partners including the EPA in 2011, and assumed ownership of corporate sustainability in 2012. Validation of his team’s efforts has come from industry recognition including the 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence Award for retail and energy management, the 2013 EPA WasteWise Honorable Mention Award, and the 2012 EPA SmartWay Excellence Award.

Paul has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois where he remains an active member of its Alumni Association. 

 

Jon Case

Yard Manager

Parr Lumber Company (Burns, OR)

Jon Case has been in the building materials industry for 22 years in Oregon. While he has been is several communities, he has always preferred the feel of a small town lumberyard. Jon is the manager of Parr Lumber in Burns, Oregon.  The community is about 4,000 people in a county of 10,000 square miles and the next nearest large town is 130 miles in any direction. He enjoys the variety of working on all types of projects and finding affordable solutions for his customers.
